Confederate Truths: Documents of the Confederate & Neo-Confederate Tradition from 1787 to the Present.
Welcome to Confederate Truths
The Confederate Truths' web site, in association with the Winter Institute, is an Internet extension of the book, "The Confederate and Neo-Confederate Reader: 'The Great Truth' about The 'Lost Cause,'" edited by James W. Loewen and Edward H. Sebesta, and published by the University Press of Mississippi. On this web site you can learn the truth about the Confederacy and Neo-Confederacy.
In the preparation of the book, a great many primary historical documents were found and less than half could be included in the book, so this web site is for those documents that weren't included in the book. Additionally we have added some other media along with the documents. The web site doesn't include any of the introductions to historical periods and the introductions to specific historical documents written by James W. Loewen in the book. To understand the historical context for these documents we refer you to the book for the introductions.
The documents and other media can be found using the Browse the Documents navigation bars to the left with the documents and media organized in the same historical periods as in the book. In addition there is an introduction regarding some of the editorial decisions regarding the documents and a Further Reading section with bibliographies for further reading. You can also use the search engine to find documents of interest.
In the horizontal navigation buttons above you can access the blog, the contact page, resources, and news & events. The blog will mostly discuss historical research problems and the web site itself. On the contact page you can sign up for our newsletter, give feed back on the web site, give us general feedback and share with us your experiences in using the documents in the book and on the web site. On the resource page we will provide suggestions on how to use material on the web site, downloads of useful materials, and links. The News and Events page will have announcements about events for the web site and news coverage of the website.
We are very interested in learning the personal experiences of persons using this web site. That is how this information is used and how it impacts the readers life.
